Having landed on Sword, Queen Red at 0830hrs, men of 1 ROYAL NORFOLK remove their waterproof overtrousers, specially made from gas cape material, and prepare to move up off the beach and into the fields beyond.
Here Private Victor Keech, complete with his assault jerkin, struggles to free himself from the cumbersome trousers. Victor turned 19 on D-Day, he would survive the war and go on to return to Normandy many times with his comrades.
