In the late summer of 1916 2nd Lt. Ernest H. Shepard makes the pilgrimage to the cemetery in Mansel Copse to visit the grave of his brother, Cyril. The grave is scattered with cornflowers. Ernest bends down and picks two. One he sends to their sister and the other to Cyril's fiancée.
