


Hedley Verity: Last Innings
On 19th July 1943, the England and Yorkshire bowler Hedley Verity leads his men of B Company, 1st Bn. Green Howards in a night time attack to take positions on the plains outside Catania. He was hit in the chest by shrapnel, ordering his men to Keep going.
Picked up by the Germans, he underwent several operations before succumbing to his wounds on 31stJuly 1944.
